Bed and Breakfast Chamomile and Coffee in Sarzana

Castelnuovo Magra panoramic view

Castelnuovo Magra and its territory are enclosed between the Alpi Apuane and the Ligurian Sea . Thanks to its position, the village enjoys a mild climate, boasts artistic beauties and scenic landscapes and is the ideal departure place for day trips and excursions in the close surroundings (both to the sea and to the mountains).
Castelnuovo Magra is located 188 m above sea level and is crossed by an inner lane ending with the tower of the Bishop's Seat Palazzo Vescovile on one side and with the bell tower of Saint Mary Magdalene's Church (Santa Maria Maddalena) on the other.

Besides its natural and architectural beauties, Castelnuovo is also known for its cultural and social effective efforts, for its devotion to the environmental safeguard and protection and for its welcoming tourist accommodation. For all that, the Touring Club Italiano granted to the village the Orange Flag (Bandiera Arancione) as award for the high quality of its touristic offer.

Agriculture has always had great importance for most of the inhabitants of Castelnuovo. Thanks to the favorable climate which the territory enjoys, one of the first and most important cultures to be introduced was olive farming, which is nowadays constantly increasing and is trying to produce native olive varieties, as for example the castelnovina .

Every year, at the beginning of June, the local council –in cooperation with the Pro Loco- organizes the Olive Oil and Quality Products tasting session (Rassegna dell'Olio d'Oliva e dei prodotti di qualità). It is a local fair taking place in the old center, whose aim is to let visitors discover the local productions and taste the typical specialities prepared by the Pro Loco.
Besides the olive farming, the vine cultivation is also an important economic resource: thanks to the hard work of devoted farmer, we can appreciate many local wine productions, among which the most famous is the Vermentino dei Colli di Luni (the Vermentino of Luni's Hills).
