Tellaro is located in the most eastern part of the municipality of Lerici . It is listed as one of the most beautiful hamlets of Italy . The only driveway joining Lerici to Tellaro runs sheer along the coastline through Maralunga and Fiascherino. The village can be also reached by walking along suggestive footpaths, descending from the upper hamlets to the sea. These routes are recommended to skilled hikers due to the impervious nature of the landscape. Equally evocative are the popular beliefs concerning the village. The most popular one narrates that -during the Medieval times- Tellaro was saved from a Saracen attack by a giant octopus, which rang the church bells waking up the sleeping inhabitants. Not to be missed is the “underwater Christmas” (Natale subacqueo) taking place every year: 5000 small lights placed along the narrow lanes and on the cliff enlighten Tellaro, while the Gospel Chorus plays the Christmas concert at the port and the divers bring out of the water the statue of baby Jesus. On the background a firework show of extraordinary beauty can be admire. |
