Lerici stretches in a small natural creek on the eastern shore of La Spezia Gulf , overlooked by a promontory on which stands the imposing Medieval Castle (Castello Medievale), today seat of the geopaleontological museum. A long promenade joins Lerici to the beach of the Venere Azzurra and ends in the suggestive village of San Terenzo. The municipality is part of the Natural Regional Park of Montemarcello – Magra, and has been recently revaluated thanks to capillary urban and architectural renovation works . The town was granted the Blue Beach Flag in 2007 for the high quality of the beaches and their facilities, and has hitherto been reconfirmed. Lerici boasts suggestive creeks and bays, but its guests can enjoy also welcoming and fully equipped bathing establishments, which offer pay services and facilities. A rental service of inflatable boats is also available (for info: 0187968511). Countless restaurants, bars and night clubs will offer you the opportunity of spending pleasant nights, from the aperitif on the sea to the after dinner in the streets of the town, particularly lively in summer. On 5 th July take place the celebrations for Saint Erasmus' Day: a procession along the streets of the town and a show of fireworks, let off from a floating platform right out the small port. Lerici is also famous for its sailing school , which organizes summer courses, and for its local tradition in canoe polo , for which summer courses are available, too. Guided excursion are organized to visit the coast and its beautiful and suggestive caves. In the last years some events have enriched the summer calendar: the Mondo Mare Festival (twelve days of touring exhibitions, concerts, shows organized in the four provinces of Liguria at weekends in May and June), the Tellaro Film Festival (film review on famous authors and emerging talents) and Agave di Cristallo Award (concerning film dialogues). |
